Dr. Wang received his Ph.D. from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) in 2011. He is currently a postdoctoral associate at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and research fellow at Boston Children's Hospital, Harvard Medical School (HMS). His research interests include molecular engineering, nanomedicine, drug delivery and photocontrolled genome editing.
The presentation will be in three parts. Firstly I will briefly present my Ph.D. research on construction of nanoparticles by self-assembly of small aromatic molecules. I will then present the biomedical application of self-assembled nanoparticles, specifically, in photo-controlled drug delivery. Photoresponsive drug delivery systems provide a strategy for the delivery of therapeutic agents preferentially to a target site, presenting the ability to enhance therapeutic efficacy while reducing side effects. Here I will show the design and use of photoresponsive nanoparticles in which light triggers drug release, or induces nanoparticle binding to tumor tissues (phototargeting). In the third part of my presentation, I will talk about my research plan.
