Dr. Clara TANG

Dr. Clara Tang obtained her PhD in statistical genetics from the University of Hong Kong (HKU) in 2010 and received her postdoctoral training in asthma genetics and bioinformatics at the QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute, previously known as Queensland Institute of Medical Research (QIMR). She joined the Department of Surgery, HKU in 2013 and is currently an Assistant Professor jointly appointed by Department of Surgery and Dr. Li Dak Sum Research Centre.

Her research interests lie in elucidating the genetic basis of complex diseases, including congenital heart disease (CHD), cardiovascular diseases and neurocristopathy, in particular, Hirschsprung disease (HSCR). Through genome-wide association and copy number analyses, Dr. Tang and colleagues successfully identified novel common and rare genetic variants predisposing to HSCR, which helps understand the genetic architecture of the disease. She is currently focusing on identifying family-segregating and/or rare genetic variants with potentially large effects using the next-generation sequencing (NGS) approaches on multiple congenital disorders, including tetralogy of Fallot (TOF). Her recent research interests also include development of new methods to analyse rare structural variations from whole genome sequencing data.
